English IV – Technical Writing is a two-semester course intended to equip students with the writing skills needed to succeed in the workplace.
English IV – Technical Writing is a two-semester course intended to equip students with the writing skills needed to succeed in the workplace. It is designed for students who struggle with formal essay writing or who intend to enter the workforce immediately after graduation. All projects focus on refining technical writing skills, and each unit of the course contains quizzes and tests that evaluate progress and student mastery.
Units covered throughout the year include the worth of words, language structure, reading and research, medieval English literature, Elizabethan literature, 17th and 18th century English literature, romantic and Victorian poetry, and creative writing. Students spend time studying work by authors including John Milton, Jonathan Swift, Samuel Johnson, William Wordsworth, Lord Byron, Percy Bysshe Shelly, John Keats, and Elizabeth Barrett Browning. The course also examines selections from Beowulf, Canterbury Tales, Paradise Lost, and William Shakespeare’s play Hamlet in its entirety.

English III is a prerequisite for this course.
