The September 2018 student of the month is Harmony Timco, a sixth-grade student who lives near North Carolina’s Atlantic Coast and is traveling on a mission trip later this year.
“She is a straight A student and has a heart of service,” wrote Mrs. Natasha Brady, who nominated Harmony for this month’s honor. “She is an outstanding writer and puts her full effort into everything she does.”
My ICA Story
I started doing school online at ICA academy halfway through 4th grade. My mom and dad purchased an RV in 2016 and decided to sell our house and travel the country. It has been really fun! We decided that ICA was the best option for us, so we can travel. I love ICA, and I want to keep doing this year after year.
Why I Love ICA
I was surprised at how much information is packed into the lessons. It really gives me a good, healthy challenge. However, my favorite part of online learning is that I can do school in my pajamas! I also love that I can ask my teachers questions any time.
My Favorite Subject
My favorite subject is math because I love to calculate fractions and probability. I also really love geometry.
My Family
I have one brother who is 10, and we love to play with our dog. Our dog’s name is Bamboo, and he is 1 1/2 years old. I have never attended regular school. My brother and I have always been homeschooled. We still live in our RV, and we now own a campground.
My Hobbies
In my free time I love to paint, draw, read, practice my violin, and build things like bird houses. I’m also on my local swim team, and I participate in American Heritage Girls.
My Upcoming Mission Trip
My mom, my dad, my brother, and I are going to Guatemala to hand out shoeboxes to all the kids there. We have been packing shoeboxes for as long as I can remember! It is an amazing opportunity to make a child smile, and many local churches carry the boxes for you to fill. Now that we get to hand them out, I am excited to see first-hand how happy the kids are to receive them. We as God’s people should serve like Jesus did. Mark 10:45 says, “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
My Goals
I am planning on doing a 2-year early college program at our local college. That way, I can get my associate’s degree along with my ICA diploma. I may want to go to a trade school to be a massage therapist because I love helping people feel better. I might also want to be a math teacher because I love kids or maybe I will do it all! Whatever I do, I want to make people smile.
My Words of Wisdom
My only advice would be to serve others with a giving heart. Who knows? Maybe somebody will see Jesus in you and want to know more. You may have the opportunity to lead someone to God, and that is very important.
