The September 2020 student of the month at Ignite Christian Academy is Ian Bazinet, a junior who lives on the outskirts of Detroit, Michigan. Since he was just 12 years old, he has been running his own business. That strong work ethic has flowed over into his schoolwork, which has earned him the recognition of this month’s honor from ICA’s teachers.
My ICA Story
My family learned about Ignite Christian Academy from my mom. I decided to enroll at ICA because of the Christian environment in all classes and the support that the teachers are able to offer if you need help with any subjects.
Why I Love ICA
My favorite part of online learning is the flexibility I have with my schedule. Being able to go at my own pace allows me to feel way less stressed. For example, I currently try to do an extra hour of school every day, which allows me to take Fridays off and have an extended weekend.
My Favorite Subject
My favorite subjects are government and history. I think learning about the history of how certain parts of our culture were shaped based on past events is very fascinating.
My Family
I have a step-brother and sister; however, they’re older so we don’t do much together anymore unless it is at family gatherings.
My Life in Michigan
I enjoy living in Michigan for countless reasons! One of the first reasons is the different seasons. Unlike some states, we have all of the seasons and even snow. Another interesting thing about Michigan is that nearly everywhere in the state you go there is a lake. Michigan has over 11,000 lakes.
My Hobbies
When I’m not doing schoolwork, I like to run my businesses and watch Netflix. I like to watch sci-fi movies, action movies, and war movies such as Lone Survivor and American Sniper.
My Businesses
The small business I run is a gaming server. I originally started by buying some cheap server hosting to mess around, and over time I slowly taught myself more and more about coding, managing people, and dealing with difficult situations when people are looking up to you to make the right decision. It was not easy at first, but one thing I’ve learned over the years is that hard work pays off, even if it is not right away. Three and a half years later I’m still running it, but I also expanded into running multiple businesses at the same time. Just recently I started doing ecommerce for physical products to hopefully expand my knowledge of businesses and get into another niche.
My Dream Job
If I could have any job in the world, it would be to continue to run and scale my own businesses or working to do something that will help make the world a better place using my skills, such as working for the government using technology to stop terrorists or hackers.
My Goals
I’m currently not sure what I want to do after I graduate from high school. I’ve thought about getting a computer science degree, but I’m not currently sure if that is what I want to do, as there are so many opportunities out there now, especially with anything related to technology and coding.
My Words of Wisdom
My advice to my classmates is to work hard at everything you do and put your all into it and never give up. Whether it’s school, sports, or anything, put your all into whatever you do and your work will not go unnoticed. Hard work pays off.
