The May 2022 high school student of the month at Ignite Christian Academy (ICA) is Kyle Schwartz, a senior from eastern Missouri near the Mississippi River. Throughout his high school years at ICA, Kyle became a member of the National Honor Society and served as president of the ICA chapter of the NHS this year. He also worked as the Student Leader of the Craft Club for two years. In addition, he wrote articles and created the “Charlie and Fred” comic strip for three years in ICA’s Blue Umbrella newsletter.
“Kyle is an outstanding senior and has been such an involved member of the ICA school community,” Student Engagement Specialist Amy McConnell wrote in in nominating Kyle for this month’s high school award. “Kyle takes immense pride in his work, is kind and thoughtful with his communication, and will be graduating with a 4.0 GPA. He embodies our school’s mission, and we are excited to see what God has in store for him.”
My ICA Story
I have been a student at ICA since I started high school in 9th grade. I have attended ICA for four years. My family and I decided to enroll after researching several online schools. ICA received good reviews and seemed like a good choice with their teacher support. When I first started at ICA, I was surprised at how friendly and helpful all the teachers were. No matter how long it had been since I last talked to them, I always felt like my teachers were friends who somehow always remembered my name.
Why I Love ICA
My favorite part of online learning is probably the flexibility. I can work on my schoolwork anytime and anywhere, making it possible to spend more time with my family, as well as pursue interests that wouldn’t be possible otherwise. The online learning format means that I can pace faster on something I understand, or if I do not understand something, I can wait until I receive help and master the content before moving forward.
My Favorite Subject
I like learning about and applying information from all my subjects, so it’s hard to pick one favorite subject, but I guess I like science best. Science fascinates me because it is a subject that leads to new discoveries every day. It is amazing to think about how all the technology that is commonplace today was made possible by science.
My Life in Missouri
I enjoy the weather we get in Missouri. We get warm days that are great for swimming and gardening in the summer and cold days that are great for snow and hiking in the winter. I like how I get to experience all four seasons in Missouri.
My Hobbies
I enjoy doing a lot of different things in my free time, but some of the things I like most are spending time outside, spending time with family, hiking, gardening, swimming, and fishing. I enjoy being outside, so I enjoy pretty much any activity I can do on my family’s farm. I am also a beekeeper. We make our own beekeeping equipment and harvest honey each year. Our farm also has goats, cows, chickens, cats, and dogs.
My Dream Job
I would probably start my own small business. I think it would be neat to start and manage a business from the ground up.
My Goals
I am planning to pursue a degree in Information Technology because it is a high-demand field that I believe I can make a difference in. One goal I have is to find a meaningful job that would allow me to make a living and help others who need it. I am excited to see what plans God has for my future.
My Words of Wisdom
Never be afraid to try something that seems impossible because if it is something God calls you to do, anything is possible.
