Did you know that June is Camping Month? Yep, now is the perfect time to grab your fishing pole, pack your backpack, and get out there!
You can camp in more places than just in a campground; consider camping in your own yard, local parks (if allowed), or in the woods or hills (with landowners permission.) Camping is an affordable and often more memorable alternative to an expensive summer vacation staying at hotels.
Camping comes in all ways, shapes, and forms from families in tents and campers to week-long summer camps for kids. Whether roughing it or taking along all the conveniences, camping is a great way to celebrate summer, family or friends, and outdoor learning.
Here are some tips for planning a summer camping trip:
1. Plan where to pitch your tent. Visit your state’s website for a list of state parks or visit the U.S. National Park Service. Don’t forget local areas too.
2. Take extra clothes, toiletries, sunscreen/bug spray, cleaning items, safety kits, and some good grilling food. (More packing ideas)
3. Before you tackle the outdoors, read together with your family common camping safety guidelines. Be prepared and research locations before traveling!
4. If your students attend an online school or summer school, you can easily take a laptop or textbooks with you to do homework by the campfire.
