Rock Rapids, IA (August 5, 2014) – Ignite Christian Academy congratulates recent graduate Amanda Sirico for earning the title of top-ranked junior female epee fencer in the United States.
In her final season before heading to college, the 18-year-old Sirico competed in world cups in France, Germany, Spain, Qatar, Brazil, Cuba, and Costa Rica. In addition to being ranked first on the junior circuit, she is also ranked fifth on the senior circuit in the United States.
The Bowie, Maryland, native has been fencing since childhood, and she enrolled at Ignite Christian Academy, an online distance learning program for grades K-12, to divide her time between academics and training.
"Fencing led me to look into Ignite Christian Academy's program, and research into the school's program and values led me to enroll," said Sirico, who was the online school's student of the month recipient in December 2013. "ICA has definitely helped me in achieving my goals both academically and athletically."
In the fall, Sirico plans to study anthropology at the University of Notre Dame, where she will also compete on the varsity fencing team. The Fighting Irish were ranked fourth nationally at the conclusion of the 2013-2014 fencing season.
