For those of us who have seen many of the Disney/Pixar films, we know that the filmmakers have done an excellent job at incorporating themes, characters, and dialogue that resonate not only with children, but also with the parents of these children. In Toy Story 2, you children can laugh at Buzz Lightyear's distressed "NOOOOOO!!!" when he finds out that Emperor Zurg is his father; your parents will also laugh because they recognize this as a reference to similar scene in Star Wars (and if you recognize this reference, kudos to you!). Likewise, you and your parents can relate to Wall-E's overwhelming desire to have companionship with EVE so he is not alone anymore, as this is natural human tendency no matter what age you are.
Just as Disney/Pixar films relate to a wide spectrum of viewers, some older and some younger, so too does Ignite Christian Academy want to relate to many different readers in the ICA Today. Because of this new direction, we are inviting you to become involved with the production of the Today! This exciting development will allow you students to get more involved with the ICA Today by contributing to it like you could a local or national newspaper or magazine. Each month, the ICA Today staff will come up with a new submission topic that students can respond to by sending in their work related to that topic; for example, we may want to hear about all you missionary students and how you like living in the country you reside in so other ICA families can learn more about you! The ICA Today staff will pick one or two submissions each month to highlight in that month's issue.
For October's issue, we are asking you students to let us know about your pets! We know you have pets you are very fond of, and we know you'd like to share this love with your classmates and their parents. If you want a chance to participate in October's issue, please send us the following:
- A picture of your pet(s)
- A short paragraph explaining either how you got your pet, why you named it what you did, or how your pet has helped you through a funny or difficult situation. (Please only choose one of these topics, preferably the one that you think other ICA families would most like to read about!)
Send your pictures and paragraphs to your ASR. Remember, we will pick one or two submissions to put in our October issue.
Going forward, we hope to include more and more student work. It's time for you students to have a voice! You are, after all, a part of ICA's today.
