Reading is a great way to promote literacy, imagination, and learning. It can bring students to new worlds and open doors to places that one can only read about. Reading also helps students learn new facts and develop a passion for life-long learning.
Though reading is a fun, educational activity, summer is a busy time of year full of different activities that can pull students away from reading. With many students starting school soon, Ignite Christian Academy teachers would like to encourage elementary students to get a step up on education with our summer reading challenge.
The elementary teachers at Ignite Christian Academy invite students to work toward the following goals for our summer reading challenge:
-Students in grades K-3 are asked to read, or have someone read to them, 30 picture books.
-Students in grades 3-4 have the option of reading 45 picture books or 2 chapter books.
-Students in grades 5-6 are asked to read and complete 4 chapter books.
Students may choose to complete the goal for an older group of students to meet the requirements for their own age level.
Students will be asked to keep a record of the books they read or have read to them, and should include the author, title, and a short, one to three sentence summary of each book they complete. When students are finished with this list, please send it to Mrs. Holland at pholland@aoacademy.com no later than August 21, 2013.
**Please note, if your student participates in our summer reading challenge, their first and last names will be published in a future article of our ICA Today newsletter unless you request, in writing, that we exclude your student's name. We will also plan a class where participating students can share a little about their favorite books and be rewarded for their participation.
