As an academic advisor at Ignite Christian Academy, Tim De Jong works with students in 11th grade, and he enjoys seeing students develop academically and as individuals.
"I enjoy watching students grow and mature as people," he said. "I love seeing their sense of accomplishment when completing a challenge."
De Jong holds a bachelor's degree in K-12 health and physical education and a master's degree in athletic administration. He has an extensive background in education and has served within schools as a teacher, coach, athletic director, and dean of students.
Born and raised in Hull, Iowa, De Jong spent much of his childhood playing seasonal sports, especially basketball and baseball. Today he uses his athletic background to play with his children and coach many of their activities. He continues to play for fun, too, competing against some of the best fastpitch softball players in the world during the summer months.
Some of De Jong's favorite things include eating steak and ribs with cheesy hash browns and watching the Iowa Hawkeyes. His favorite Bible verse is Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me." If given the chance to pursue another career, De Jong would choose to coach collegiate softball or basketball.
