Stefan Becker is a junior at Ignite Christian Academy® and has been selected as the April Student of the Month. He lives with his family in France, where he is involved in his family's ministry. Since Stefan has lived in France his entire life, he is bilingual in English and French and enjoys French history and culture.
His family learned about ICA through friends who encouraged them into using ICA's online curriculum for their family's education. His older sister used ICA first, and now Stefan has found that it is a good match for him as well. Since there is flexibility in ICA's accredited distance learning program, it allows him to pursue extracurricular activities and be involved in the ministry.
Stefan's experience with ICA has been positive, and he has come away being personally challenged by the program. He is a great student who stays on top of his work and pushes himself to do his best. His teacher, Mrs. Brouwer, nominated Stefan and commented, "Stefan lives in France, yet his English and writing skills are nearly impeccable. It is quite obvious that he puts effort into his work, especially projects."
For extracurricular activities, Stefan stays busy acting as captain of a regional basketball team. Musically, he also takes classical guitar lessons and plays in a guitar ensemble. In addition to singing in the community choir, he started the trumpet this year and is making quick progress. Stefan also participates in his parent's ministry by preparing weekly Bible clubs and playing his guitar in the Sunday worship service.
Faith is an area that Stefan integrates into every part of his life, including basketball. At the beginning of the year, his dad challenged the church members to think of what they could do for the Lord. Stefan took his father's challenge to heart and wrote "Philippians 4:13" on his basketball shoe as a reminder to play his best for the Lord. His assistant coach noticed this and asked Stefan about it. After responding that he was not religious, his coach left. Several weeks later, his assistant coach became the head coach and made Stefan captain. He explained that Stefan deserved to be captain because he worked hard at practice, had a good attitude, and because of his "shoe-top" testimony. Then he asked Stefan to talk to his teammates about what was on his shoes. One of many such stories, this how Stefan puts his faith into practice.
After graduation Stefan would like to pursue engineering/architectural studies and play college basketball.
Congratulations, Stefan, on being chosen as ICA's April Student of the Month.
