The elementary student of the month at Ignite Christian Academy is second grader Kyden Kettler who has been with ICA since kindergarten. His family likes the support he gets from his teachers when he needs them, and he was surprised by the number of times he can have meetings with his teachers. His parents learned about ICA from Kyden’s cousin, Kyle, who is a recent graduate of the academy, and they like that ICA is an accredited school.
Meet Mae Hammersmith
The student of the month at Ignite Christian Academy (ICA) for the month of March is 10th grader Mae Hammersmith! Mae has been a student at ICA since September of 2022 when her family found ICA through another family who has been using this program. Her family chose to enroll in ICA after moving to Luxembourg where there is not as much support for homeschoolers.
Meet Dominick Dunmire
The Ignite Christian Academy elementary student of the month for February is Dominick Dunmire. Dominick is an active student, often going on field trips, playing with his peers or going to the beach! Dominick lives in Virginia Beach, Virginia where he loves that he can swim for seven months out of the year. His family are also really close to the beach where they can go enjoy the boardwalk or the Atlantic Ocean. They also have lots of nature trails and exciting things to do all year round. If you don’t want to go to the beach during the tourist season, you can go to the mountains in North Carolina or head to the outer banks to enjoy some fun!
Mrs. Chastain nominated Dominick to be student of the month stating, “Not only does Dominick turn in wonderful work but he is helpful. He has been in several online classes with me and he is always encouraging the other students. He loves to give them tips on their work and cheer them forward. He is delightful and very inquisitive.”
Meet Naiden Tannehill
February’s high school student of the month for Ignite Christian Academy is Naiden Tannehill. Naiden is an 11th grade student who has been with the academy for eight years! Naiden and his family love the flexibility that our faith-based curriculum offers and that he can work at his own pace and spend more time doing the things he loves. Naiden was nominated for this honor by his math teacher, Mrs. Repka who noted “Naiden works extremely hard and is dedicated to his work. He is a joy to teach and is always ready to learn.”
Meet Ashton DeVos
Ignite Christian Academy is proud to celebrate senior Ashton DeVos as our first high school student of the month for 2023! Ashton lives in a small town in the western part of Nebraska with his family at a Christian camp, where his dad is the director. Living at the camp provides Ashton with opportunities to meet fun people and do fun things! Ashton also recently celebrated his birthday, on Christmas!
Ashton was nominated by his teacher, Mrs. Henn who described Ashton as a student who “consistently turns in high-quality, creative work and has a kind, clear, and intelligent sense of humor. He recently submitted a well-developed proposal for a video game based on navigating American Midwestern culture that was incisive, hilarious, and sounds very fun to play.
Meet Gabrielle Keen
Our first elementary student of the month for 2023 is fifth-grade student Gabrielle Keen. Gabrielle is still in her first year at Ignite Christian Academy and is enjoying the freedom that the schedule offers her!
Gabrielle was nominated by her teacher Mrs. Scarborough who said, “Gabrielle is proactive in her communication, wants to understand the content on the deepest level possible, and perseveres when things get tough. She displays Christ-like characteristics and is truly a wonderful student ICA has been blessed with!”
