A former math teacher, project manager, and dean of education at Ignite Christian Academy, Joseph Bakker is now the Principal at Ignite Christian Academy. As principal he is responsible for leading the student internship program, implementing policies and procedures, ensuring effective communication between faculty and families, and continuously refining education at Ignite Christian Academy. With more than 6 years of experience in distance learning, Bakker’s most enjoyable moments are still helping students succeed in their courses.
Bakker holds a degree in secondary mathematics education, and he is currently working on his master’s degree. Born in Ontario, Canada, Bakker grew up on a dairy farm, where he enjoyed outdoor activities like biking and skiing. Today, his hobbies include being with his wife and children, reading, woodworking, and helping out on Saturdays at his father-in-law’s farm.
A self-proclaimed fast food junkie, Bakker said if he wasn’t in education, he would be an engineer who designs large buildings. His bucket list includes visiting Australia, and if he could meet anyone, he would like to meet Job from the Bible. “He was a person who really understood his role in God’s kingdom, and I would like to hear his thoughts on his life,” Bakker said.
