About Me
I’m originally from Carmel Valley, which is located on the Central Coast of California. My husband is in the military, so we relocate frequently across the country. Most recently, we relocated from Georgia up north to Maryland. We have one daughter and a sweet Samoyed mix dog.
Favorite Verse
“Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality” (Romans 12:9-13).
First Job
I first worked as a front desk clerk and breakfast attendant at a small, European country inn in my hometown of Carmel Valley. I started working there in high school and stayed on as an employee throughout each summer and holiday when I was in college. It was a great experience to learn all about hospitality, meet people from all over the world, and see guests come to visit the Monterey Peninsula for all kinds of neat events, such as the U.S. Open and the Concours d’Elegance Car Show.
Hobbies
I’ve really grown to love jogging and running as my favorite form of exercise. I enjoy participating in 5Ks, 10Ks, and half marathons. Outside of running and other forms of group exercise, I enjoy reading and playing card/board games with my family.
Bucket List Item
I absolutely love horses and horseback riding, so one item on my bucket list is to complete a week (or weeks) long equestrian riding tour. I would really like to complete a trek through Europe or South America.
Favorite Place
A few summers ago, my sister and I traveled to the Guanacaste Province in northwestern Costa Rica. It was an absolutely beautiful location for surfing, swimming, and exercise and had amazing local cuisine. That has definitely been one of my favorite vacation destinations!
Person I’d Like to Meet
I would have loved to meet Fred Rogers from Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood. I think that he had an incredible way of connecting with children and adults of all ages from which we (in teaching professions) can draw inspiration. I’ve read most of his books and books that are written about him, and I’m so impressed by his servant-leadership and manner of understanding human nature. One of his quotes states, “As human beings, our job in life is to help people realize how rare and valuable each one of us really is, that each of us has something that no one else has (or ever will have) something inside that is unique to all time. It’s our job to encourage each other to discover that uniqueness and to provide ways of developing its expression.” This idea, helping others realize how rare and valuable they are, is so important to me as a teacher!
