Summer is a great time of year; the weather is warm and the days are long. There isn't a better time to get physically active and in the process, earn a physical education (P.E.) credit. Every spring and summer, as a child, there was a chore that I looked forward to. It all began when my father would clear the garden space from the previous year. Often, he cleared the stubble by burning it off, leaving the entire area black and lifeless. Did you know the symbol for healthy eating has changed? Replacing the traditional food pyramid, the Department of Agriculture recently revealed the new MyPlate design in June 2011. Divided into four sections, this new nutritional resource graphic depicts a familiar table place setting, showing fruits and vegetables in half the plate's space, and grains and proteins in the other half of the plate. Having been involved in education for 20 years, there are moments of sweetness and sadness that come to my mind at the end of each school year. As my first class of 5th grade students left my classroom, I found myself sobbing over the "loss" of such an incredible bunch of students. Gone were all the frustrations of students not completing their homework, calling each other names, talking in class, and the many other little troubles that I had agonized over during the year. A wonderful benefit of learning online is that parents can create their student's learning schedule. Unlike traditional school, where your student's class periods and months of study are decided for you, ICA gives you convenient options of doing school anytime that's convenient for you. The graduation at ICA marks the success and achievements of ICA students across the United States and the world. At the ICA graduation ceremonies, several students took the opportunity to share those successes with their fellow graduates. Students used poems, video, and speech to communicate their experiences.
