English IV is a two-semester course intended to prepare students for college-level writing.
English IV is a two-semester course intended to prepare students for college-level writing. In the first semester, students study the worth of words, language structure, reading, research, and medieval English literature. The second semester includes studying Elizabethan literature, 17th and 18th century English literature, romantic and Victorian poetry, and creative writing. This course from our online academy includes selections from Beowulf, Canterbury Tales, Paradise Lost, and William Shakespeare’s play Hamlet in its entirety.
Topics in this course from our online academy include expository writing, coherence and consistency, reference agreement, sentence structure, information search, language origins, and semantics. Authors studied include John Milton, Jonathan Swift, Samuel Johnson, William Wordsworth, Lord Byron, Percy Bysshe Shelly, John Keats, and Elizabeth Barrett Browning. Projects include writing free verse poetry, an elegy, a research paper from notes, and a critical essay. Each unit of the course contains quizzes and tests to evaluate progress and student mastery.
