Students are introduced to the history, fundamental principles, applications, processes, and concepts of STEM. Students are exposed to several computer applications used to analyze and present technical or scientific information. Finally, students explore the kinds of strategies frequently used to solve problems in these disciplines. Throughout the course, students discover their strengths through practical applications and awareness of the various STEM careers.
Middle School Computer Science
Although knowing how to program is essential to the study of computer science, the course also designs and analyzes algorithms to solve programs and study the performance of computer hardware and software. The course concludes with a study of how computers affect our world today in the areas of communication, power, and human rights.
Middle School Physical Education
Some exercises are picked out for students to complete, while others let students choose an exercise they enjoy. The goal is to build lifelong skills that can physically and mentally improve a student’s life and wellbeing.
Middle School Health
In this class, students walk through learning about the body in a basic manner which sets the foundation for the rest of the class. After gaining that basic information, students learn how to care for their body by what they eat and how they take care of themselves through nutrition and hygiene.
Our minds are an important part of our overall health which is highlighted in the unit focusing on social and mental health. The importance of a strong spiritual life and close walk with God plays a critical role in this. Physical health and staying safe round out the curriculum by focusing on exercise and the activities that keep a body healthy, along with ways we can stay safe and protect ourselves in this world in which we live. Middle School Civics, Economics, and Government
Students enrolled in this two-semester course analyze the political process, political parties, and influences that affect them both. Engaging, interactive content introduces economic concepts and encourages students to explore government and economics on a global scale. By instilling a thorough understanding of government and economics, this course inspires students to investigate what it means to be an American citizen.
Art History
Students enrolled in this full-year course cover topics that include early Medieval and Romanesque art through modern art in Europe and the Americas.
Online Learning and Digital Citizenship
Instruction on how to be a responsible online learner is threaded throughout the course, and these skills are directly addressed in lessons on cyberbullying, staying safe online, and learning how to be a digital leader. A basic understanding of software and hardware and how to troubleshoot common technology issues are also taught. By the end of the course, students will have the tools they need to be academically successful in both traditional and digital learning environments.
Introduction to Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources
Students also analyze community practice or policy development related to sustainability in agriculture, food, and natural resources. Finally, students apply adaptive ecosystem management to a common pool resource problem in a manner that addresses ecological, socioeconomic, and institutional contexts.
Environmental Science
Through unique activities and material, high school students connect scientific theory and concepts to current, real-world dilemmas, providing them with opportunities for mastery in each of the segments throughout the semester.
Medical Terminology
The knowledge and skills gained in this course provide students entering the healthcare field with a deeper understanding of the application of the language of health and medicine. Students are introduced to these skills through direct instruction, interactive tasks, and practice assignments.
