In U.S. history, students study the development of the United States from the time of exploration to modern times.

In U.S. history, students study the development of the United States from the time of exploration to modern times. This course from our online academy explores the political, economic, and social changes that have shaped the United States into the country it is today. In the first semester students will study the settlement of the New World, the growth of the American Colonies, the development of the U.S. Constitution, national expansion and the War of 1812, and the U.S. Civil War and Reconstruction.

Second semester topics include the growth of U.S. industry, World War I, the twenties, the Great Depression, World War II, and the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Lessons in this course also examine contemporary America from the 1960s to the present. Included is a section on the terrorist attacks on 9/11. Projects include an essay on foreign policy, Seward’s proposal of Alaska, and a report analysis on containment policy during the Cold War. Each unit of the course contains quizzes and a test to evaluate progress and student mastery.
