Study after study cites the importance of physical education to both physical and mental health. Why not take a course that can greatly impact your life and keep you active into your older years? Sign up for a course in physical education!
According to Mayo clinic, about one in every three adults is considered obese, and 26% of children 12-19 are considered obese. Schools falling under tough economic times are still cutting physical education from their curriculums despite these harsh statistics.
Ignite Christian Academy® strives to teach lifelong fitness. With our distance learning program, students are able to choose the fitness activities they enjoy doing, as opposed to suffering through P.E. units they do not enjoy and have no intention of participating in later in life. Fitness fundamentals is a great course, teaching the basics of the five components of fitness: body composition, muscular strength, muscular endurance, cardio respiratory fitness, and flexibility.
To register for fitness fundamentals, talk to your faculty advisor during your next appointment. You will then receive a pin and password for the Academy Online Testing Center. The course content will be under your coursework section. Watch the introductory video and get started!
Common Questions:
Q: How do make sure my student is on track with coursework?
A: Each section should be completed in one week. There are 15 sections in the course, so the first semester fitness fundamentals course should take 15 weeks. Each section includes a lesson, quiz, discussion forum, assignment, and fitness log.
Q: What do I do if I miss a week or I am sick?
A: There are two fitness logs at the end of the course that are for makeup weeks. Just complete the work (lesson, assignment, quiz, and discussion forum) in the next week and skip the log. At the end of the course, take an extra week to complete fitness log #13. Although there are 15 weeks, only 12 logs need to be submitted for grading. Each log has three hours of physical activity.
Q: How do I upload my student's work for grading?
A: We would recommend creating a P.E. folder. Save all your fitness fundamentals documents to this folder. When you are ready to turn an assignment in for grading, go to the assignments page, click the "browse" button on the bottom of the page, and browse to your P.E. folder. Double click on the document you want to submit. This should make the name of the document appear in the upload a file box. Click the "upload file" button, and you should receive a message telling you that your document has been successfully uploaded.
The fitness fundamentals course is a ½ credit semester course; after completion, your student will start the second semester physical education course. This course consists of two nine-week fitness logs. Using the concepts learned in the first semester, your student will be expected to complete 45 minutes of physical activity each day or the equivalent of that in a week. These logs are only submitted at the end of the nine week periods and are graded pass or fail.
Now that we have gone over the basics, it's time to buckle down, break a sweat, and most importantly, have fun!
