Here's big news for Ignite Christian Academy students! ICA is proud to officially announce the option of live online classrooms for all students. Students can now attend scheduled virtual classes, along with seeing and hearing live instruction from teachers. Students can interact with fellow students, ask questions in real time with chat or phone, and watch demonstrations of concepts by viewing the teacher's shared computer screen.
Online classrooms, included in tuition costs, are easy to attend. Students just need an Internet connection to join a WebEx-hosted class and preferably a phone to hear the teacher's audio instruction. Audio can also be powered through the computer if no phone is available. Online classrooms are voluntary, but students who have attended trial versions of the classes in the past several months love the visual explanations presented by the teacher and the ability to socialize with other students.
Principal Deborah Secord said, "We have had students say, ‘Wow, this is like a real classroom!'" In a recent survey of student attendees of trial version online classes, 87% said they were satisfied with the class they attended. Eighty-four percent of students said online classrooms expanded their understanding of past course concepts, and 66% said they learned new concepts.*
ICA students who are at any grade level and use any curriculum are welcome to attend online classrooms. Classes vary in length and in size and often cover topics in which students are struggling or have many questions about. Students can raise their hands online or send private questions to their teacher or ask them in front of the whole class.
Beginning this fall, ICA teachers will increase online classroom offerings to students. Currently, invitations to online classrooms are emailed to the parents of students who are taking courses that are covered in the specific session. Students may also contact their academy service representative for a link to attend the online classroom.

*Students taking trial versions of online classes may have taken courses above or below their mastery, just because they have loved the social aspect of attending class online.
