The October 2020 student of the month at Ignite Christian Academy is junior Ebey Piper, an artist who lives on Whidbey Island in the state of Washington. In her third year at ICA, Ebey has caught the attention of her teachers for more than just her incredible artwork.
“She is always so kind when she comes for support,” wrote math teacher Stacy Piacentini, who nominated Ebey for this month’s award. “She is a model student when it comes to reviewing for quizzes and tests. She is also a very talented artist. She is just a super sweet lady.”
My ICA Story
This is my third year at ICA. I started as a freshman at ICA, and I am currently a junior. My mom learned about Alpha Omega Publications because she was sent a mailed advertisement for it. I have been using AOP curriculum since 1st grade. When I got to high school, my family did not want to put me into a public school. In addition, my family wanted me to be taught by other people that I did not know and have my own personal experience that would work with my personality. We found out that Alpha Omega Publications had an online academy, and we knew that would be the right path for me.
Why I Love ICA
My favorite part of online learning is that I can be ahead at all times. I get to talk to so many different teachers, and I can be home to do things that make me happy.
My Favorite Subject
My favorite subject that I have had is Earth Science because I love learning about Earth and nature. I enjoy learning the way that God created Earth and all of its processes.
My Family
I have two older sisters that are out of the house. My oldest sister and I like to geek out with things that we like on Pinterest and texting. My middle sister and I like to watch movies together when she is home.
My Life on Whidbey Island
My family and I built the house that is on Whidbey Island. I watched the house be built from the ground up within a year. During this time, I lived in the most comfortable trailer. It was a good experience because it taught me that having just a few things can make you happy. I enjoy living on Whidbey Island because it is a wide-open space even though it is an island. The beaches, sea water, farmland, and the forest trails are beautiful. Playing in the saltwater in the summer is a nice way to cleanse my soul. I can be myself on the island.
My Hobbies
During my free time I create artwork, listen to audiobooks, listen and sing to music while cooking/baking, text my siblings, spend time with my ducks and bantams, and watch movies/TV shows with my mom.
My Art
What I enjoy the most about being an artist is being creative, putting my ideas on paper, having a variety of colors/mediums to work with, and letting my magical fantasies come to life.
My Dream Job
If I could have any job in the world, I would probably choose to be an exotic and pet bird breeder and vet.
My Goals
At this time, I don’t have any specific plans for after high school. However, my main goal is to live a simple life and hopefully keep my artwork as my most important hobby.
My Words of Wisdom
Stay on top of your schedule and don’t procrastinate. It has to be done, so do it! It may be hard but just barrel through until the end. If you get a bad grade, fix it. If you don’t understand something, go to a teacher and after that do your best and that’s all you can do. The only way is forward, even if it is diagonally! Doing your best is what is going to count in the long run. Nothing is perfect except God’s creation.
