Homeschooled from a young age, Kalynn is a 9th grade student in her first year at Ignite Christian Academy. Though she faced some struggles as she began her adventure at ICA, she's now thriving in her course work!
My ICA Story
I have been using the LIFEPAC and Switched-On Schoolhouse programs since 2nd grade, and I love them. I learned of the academy through my parents. They were trying to help me find a way to continue homeschooling and while still having a way to connect and make friends with Christian homeschoolers. I was very excited to enroll in ICA because of its Christian morals and the ability to work whenever and however I wished. The flexibility of the academy provides me with the opportunity to be with my family and go have fun whenever I please.
Once I began classes at ICA, I abused my free time, neglected my schoolwork, and ended up a month behind. When I was going through that difficult point in life, my teachers and family never gave up on me. They helped me gain confidence that I could get through the situation and excel. They encouraged me, guided me patiently back onto the right track, and did not once falter in Christian character. Thankfully, I'm no longer a month behind. In fact, I'm ahead and incredibly thankful to God and everyone who has helped me along the way.
Favorite Things About ICA
My teachers are always very nice and helpful. They don't give up on you, even if you think you just can't get it. They are very patient and give thorough explanations to your questions.
I do not have a favorite subject, because I enjoy them all. However, if I had to pick only one subject to study, it would be World History. I love learning about different cultures and realizing that something that seemed like a small discovery to a civilization actually laid the foundation for where we all stand today. I also love learning about the civilizations that Jesus and the Disciples may have visited, for the lessons paint very vivid pictures.
Hobbies
In my spare time, I try to pick up new ideas for activities I wish to learn about. I'm currently trying my hand at the art of origami, picking out different pieces to learn on the piano (and sometimes the guitar), and attempting to learn to draw. I would love to learn to draw well and turn some of the ideas in my mind into a reality. I love animals and enjoy playing with my miniature poodle named Rocky. However, my true passion is reading. Books have always been an outlet for me, because they give you the ability to be someone else for a while and travel to different places you can only dream of. It's very stress-relieving for me.
Future Plans
After I graduate from ICA, I'd love to become a doctor or a lawyer. I would like to have a career that allows me to help people and care for them. I would love to go to Texas A&M College and continue my education. I know that God has something special in store for me, and I can't wait to find out what it is!
My advice to fellow classmates is simple: don't give up. At times you may feel like you can't get the job done or that something is just too hard, but don't give up. God will help you, and He will handle it, no matter how rough the situation.
