In eight years as a distance learning student at Ignite Christian Academy®, Tim Pombo has caught the attention of his teachers with his exceptional attitude and grades. A senior from Latham, New York, Tim is a member of the National Honor Society, who is described by ICA faculty members as a polite and conscientious student who shows genuine interest, initiative, and effort in his coursework.
"Tim is diligent and disciplined," agreed Tim's mom, Sally. "He takes his education seriously. He is responsible and hard-working, always striving for excellence."
Tim and his family chose Ignite Christian Academy because of the God-centered academics and the computer-based curriculum. Tim's parents said they have appreciated their academic advisors and teachers who have guided and worked with Tim throughout his education with ICA.
"Tim's experience with ICA has been very positive," said Sally. "It has allowed him to work independently and cultivate a deep level of responsibility and personal accomplishment. The teachers and academic staff at ICA have been a great help and encouragement, and they have always inspired him to do his best!"
Tim is an exceptionally strong math student. In fact, every member of the math department at ICA recommended him for ICA's Student of the Month! Although Tim has yet to choose where he wants to attend college, he is looking at a few options and considering a career in engineering or another math-related field.
In his spare time, Tim stays busy with his two passions: the drums and baseball. Tim has been taking private drum lessons for seven years, and he has learned to play different musical styles, including salsa, jazz, rock, Afro-Caribbean, and Cuban. He plays the drums for his church's Sunday morning worship team and leads a youth worship team called Common Ground for which he also sings and acts as a mentor to other team members. In baseball, Tim plays third base for a local traveling team. He is also a die-hard New York Yankees fan, and he can often be found checking the Yankees' stats on their website.
Most importantly, Tim has a deep-rooted faith in God. He is a man of prayer who has used his time and abilities in several mission outreaches. He has helped run a VBS sports workshop for children in a Ukrainian village, worked on a team that helped clean up and clear trees in Mississippi after Hurricane Katrina, and worked in construction for low-income families in Pennsylvania.
"Tim understands that God has given him talents, abilities, and gifts to be used for His glory," said Sally.
Ignite Christian Academy applauds Tim Pombo for his commitment to his schoolwork and faith and is proud to honor him as ICA's October Student of the Month! Congratulations, Tim!
