Did you know the symbol for healthy eating has changed? Replacing the traditional food pyramid, the Department of Agriculture recently revealed the new MyPlate design in June 2011. Divided into four sections, this new nutritional resource graphic depicts a familiar table place setting, showing fruits and vegetables in half the plate's space, and grains and proteins in the other half of the plate. In addition, next to the plate is a blue circle indicating dairy items, which include yogurt, milk, or cheese.
To give students up-to-the-minute curriculum, Ignite Christian Academy has updated this information in online lessons by recommendation from the United States Department Agriculture (USDA). ICA students using online curriculum will now see the addition of the new MyPlate image and information in several health and science courses to learn how to effectively use it for meal planning. Students are not required to do any action to get new information, as updates happen automatically and seamlessly via Internet-driven technology.
The subjects where families will see these changes include the following:
Health Quest – Unit 3 Lessons:
Basic Food Groups, Good Eating, Activity: My Plate and Menu Planner.
High School Health – Unit 2 Lessons:
