"And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it" (Matthew 7:26-27).
One of my children's favorite summertime activities was playing outside in our sandbox. It wasn't just an ordinary sandbox; measuring 10' x 15', filling it required a total truckload of sand. My children spent countless hours building superhighways, two-story houses, battle grounds, farms, zoos, ocean beaches, and castles. As my children grew older, they realized the uselessness of trying to build something lasting with sand. Eventually, their treasured sandbox sat empty.
How about you? Have you discovered the futility of building your life on the shifting sands of this world? Climb out of the sandbox and discover a mature faith. Nothing matters more than your relationship with Jesus! Don't be like the foolish man who built his house upon the sand. The fickle treasures of this world are nothing compared to Christ's salvation and the promise of eternal life.
"Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever" (1 John 2:15-17).
Jesus,
Thank you for being the only "sure" thing I can depend on. I believe you love me. Take my life and build something lasting with it to glorify you. In Your name. Amen.
