For the most accurate comparisons, your students should be tested when they are about one month away from completing all courses. For ICA students, that means when they have finished at least through the 8th unit in each subject, which typically occurs in April or May. To ensure that your distance learning student will be able to take the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) achievement test on your preferred date, estimate when your student will be through eight units in all subjects and call your Academy Service Representative (ASR) to schedule either a morning or afternoon session. There's no need to worry about the cost, since you have already paid for your student's achievement testing when you registered with Ignite Christian Academy®. As your testing date approaches, you will receive clear, easy-to-follow directions.
One of the many advantages of belonging to Ignite Christian Academy is being able to take the MAP achievement test in the privacy of your own home. In addition, you can find out how your student compares to national averages in the crucial areas of language expression, mathematics skills, and reading skills. After testing, you will receive a complete report from NWEA, the respected leader in computerized achievement testing.
If you are not familiar with the MAP test, here is more information:
• The MAP tests are normed on the basis of 2.8 million students who recently took the test in 6.905 schools in 42 states, probably the largest norms table around.
• MAP tests are computerized adaptive. Each student response determines the academic level of the next question, so this assesses more accurately what the student has learned or needs to learn.
• Because of selective questioning, MAP test sessions are not timed, and tend to be shorter than paper and pencil tests. Students are given an entire morning or afternoon, but most finish in about two hours.
• ICA sends MAP test reports to parents by email within 10 days.
• MAP testing provided by ICA can save parents as much as $50 per student over other achievement testing services.
• MAP test results are kept confidential, and will be used by ICA to help improve instruction.
