The Spring Semester has begun at ICA, and that means it’s time for our annual achievement testing.
ICA uses the Measure of Academic Progress (MAP) test through the Northwest Evaluation Association (NWEA) for our achievement testing. The MAP test is unique in that it is taken online and the test is adaptive to the student’s ability. When students begin the test, the first question is at their grade level. If the question is answered correctly, the next question is slightly more difficult. From there, the test gets progressively more difficult with each correct answer and slightly easier with each incorrect answer.
Using this method, the MAP test is successful in identifying the true academic level of students as it adapts back and forth to find the level of academic comprehension, knowledge, and skills. Ignite Christian Academy utilizes three separate sections of the MAP test: Language Usage, Reading, and Math. Students typically take the test over two days with Reading and Math on one day and Language Usage on the second day.
There are many reasons for taking the MAP test, but one of the greatest advantages is that it allows you to see the academic progress of your child from an impartial third party year over year. As a school, ICA uses our MAP test averages to look at our overall academic success in equipping our students with the appropriate knowledge and skills for their grade levels.
All full-time ICA students in grades 3 through 10 are required to take the MAP test each year, preferably in the spring. Part-time students may take the test for a small fee, but testing is not required. The Spring 2022 MAP testing window runs from February 15 through June 10. The test is not available on Monday, May 30, due to Memorial Day.
Again this year ICA is utilizing an online sign-up page. You may also contact your education coordinator.
