The elementary department at the academy just finished up its second annual summer reading challenge. The following students met their summer reading goals and were asked to participate in an online class book share where they could tell other students at the class about their favorite books and authors. It was great to hear the students' perspective on their favorite books and authors.
The reading challenge is a great way to encourage reading over the summer. Students who participated worked very hard to meet the reading challenge goals. Students in grades K-2 were asked to read, or have someone read to them, 30 picture books. Students in 3rd and 4th grade had the option of reading 45 picture books or 2 chapter books. Students in 5th and 6th grade were asked to read 4 chapter books. A few of the younger students even decided to challenge themselves further by meeting the goal that we had set for the older students. Way to go readers!

Keep your eyes open for future reading challenges. The academy hopes to plan another reading challenge for some time in December.
