As we move towards the next semester of the 2019-2020 school year, the ICA elementary staff decided that a closer look at some teacher suggestions for student success would be a great focus. While we know that some students use these tricks and tools every day, we also wanted to be sure that every student knows about them.
Our most common form of student support is the sessions the teachers offer every weekday. These one-on-one online sessions are set up by the student for specific help with lessons, course content and concepts, or projects. Students are asked to sign up using the booking link on their teacher’s gradebook page ahead of time, but they can also call their teacher to see if a same-day appointment is available. The booking sessions use an online format where teachers can share their screen, work through example problems, and give beneficial advice about ICA course content.
Weekly emails are another important point of contact from the teachers. These emails often include information on department fun days, weekly online classes, jokes or inspirational quotes, and links to places where a student can get course help. Many teachers also use these weekly emails to guide students to the virtual campus where all ICA elementary courses have study guides to use for additional study and practice. Please take the time to read through these messages and encourage your student to take part in these fun and helpful offerings that ICA provides.
Students are also allowed to send messages through their course content directly to their grading teacher. The trick with these written messages and emails is that the use of complete sentences and specific details are vital. You need to give your teachers enough information that they know exactly where you require assistance. Also, be sure to check back for the teacher’s response, as some may request that you set up a call or booking appointment if the question can’t be answered easily in a short message.
Finally, our biggest suggestion is that you be willing to ask for help. The teachers are here for you and want to work with you, but as a student, you need to make that first step and reach out for assistance. This can be as simple as sending a help note through your course or picking up the phone and calling your teacher’s phone number. The elementary department also has an academic support line you can call from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (CT). If we know that you need and want help, we will find a way to make a support session work for you.
