As we move into a new season, the elementary teachers are working to prepare our students for the blessings that Christmas brings. Along with all the joys of the season, from getting together with friends and family to the long-awaited Christmas gifts, we hope to put the true meaning of Christmas back into play.
On November 20, Mrs. Wieneke will read The Sparkle Box by Jill Hardie during her online class. The inspirational story encourages us all to write down the things that we do for others and save them in a sparkling gift box for reflection as we prepare for the coming of Christ.
In the story, a child named Sam gives his gloves to a homeless man and helps at a shelter. His mother records these actions on a slip of paper and places them in the sparkle box. Then, on Christmas morning, the family opens the box together to reveal the gifts given to others that are truly gifts to the newborn king.
During class on November 20, Mrs. Wieneke will challenge students to consider how their own thoughts and actions can be a true gift to Jesus this holiday season. As part of our Christmas celebration in December, we'll invite students to share their own sparkle boxes and stories. Encourage your student to attend this special online class, make a sparkle box, and spread the true meaning of Christmas to everyone he or she meets this holiday season.
