Micah Dunkleberger, a senior at ICA, took the first place spot in the Senior Engineering Division at the Oklahoma State Science and Engineering Fair.
Micah started her journey to the state level of competition on February 2 at the Bartlesville District Science and Engineering Fair. There she earned second place in the Senior Engineering Division and was chosen to move on to the state competition. This was Micah's third opportunity to represent ICA at the Oklahoma State Science and Engineering Fair. On March 7-8 she competed in the same division and won first prize.
Micah's project was an experiment designed to save electricity. She powered a top-access refrigerator with a rotating solar panel. Only twelve days in her one hundred twenty-one day study required supplemental power from a battery. From her experiment, Micah was able to conclude that her refrigerator design uses 7.5 times less electricity than a traditional vertical unit.
The journey with her project doesn't end here. Micah has been selected to compete at the international level at two different competitions. In May, she will compete in the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair and the International Sustainable World Energy Engineering Environment Project Olympiad.
Micah is excited to move on to the international level for the first time. She said, "I hope that I can continue to represent ICA at the international level."
Congratulations Micah! We wish you the best at your competitions in May.
