August 2009 Student of the Month
When asked about Brooke Paulson, one of Ignite Christian Academy's language arts teachers said, "Her messages are always full of sunshine."
This month, Brooke will start her freshman year at Ignite Christian Academy® (ICA). A resident of Cartwright, North Dakota, Brooke is involved in speech and drama at her local school, and she is a dedicated violinist. This past year, Brooke impressed her friends and family by qualifying for state with her oral interpretation piece in speech. She also tied for fifth place at the state spelling bee.

Back-to-School Tools
Would you like to know the best back-to-school item for your child's successful distance learning? No, it's not a new computer, and it's not a new microscope, math manipulative, or the latest educational game. In fact, you may be surprised to learn that the most effective tool you have is simply the positive words you use to encourage your child. No high-tech gadget or apparatus can ever leave as profound an effect on your child's education as saying things like, "Wow, you did a great job on that test!" and "How did you learn that so quickly?" Though it seems too good to be true, affirming your child with words of praise is the quickest way to motivate him to higher academic achievement.

Pruning Pains
"Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit" (John 15:2).
As we walked through the garden one morning during the summer break from our distance learning school, my daughter watched, as I began to pinch off the tops of several tomato plants. With a shocked look on her face, she cried, "Mom, what are you doing? We've been trying to get these plants to grow for weeks, and now you're destroying them!"
