Last fall, an invitation was sent to all French students to start "Le club de français" with the goals to practice and learn more about the French language and culture, as well as to get to know other French students at Ignite Christian Academy. Since then, it has been an absolute delight to see friendships develop and learn that sometimes students even "meet" outside the club to study French together!
Each Thursday morning, French Club begins with greetings like, "Bonjour! Ça va? Comment vas-tu? Très bien, merci, et toi?" Then, a prayer is given in French and memory verses are studied from "Le Semeur," a French Bible. The WebEx meetings also include questions in French such as "Comment es-tu?" "What kind of person are you?" Participants answer the questions through their microphones and also ask the question to another club member.
In addition, a highlight of every meeting is sharing time, where students present and share photos, stories, letters, drawings, music, videos, or ideas from their computer desktops. Other activities have included drawing names for sending digital Christmas cards to each other, choosing French names to use, listening to French music, and watching French videos.
The club somewhat follows Robert's Rules of Order and elects officers. Officers hold their duties for only 2-3 months, so more students have an opportunity to be president, vice president, or secretary. Motions are made, seconded, and decided by a vote. In January, the second slate of officers was elected for this school year.
All French students are invited and encouraged to come. The link, time, and password can be found on the ICA website in the online classroom schedule. We hope to greet you at our next meeting with a hearty "bonjour et bienvenue."
