Our elementary student of the month at Ignite Christian Academy is fifth grader Reagan W. While Reagan is still in her first year at ICA, her oldest sister, who is a senior this year, has been at ICA for 4 years. Her family wanted to be able to travel more often to see their grandparents who live far away, so her parents thought it would be best to enroll all of their children at ICA so that they could be mobile.
Reagan’s teacher, Mrs. Phillips, nominated for her this award stating, “Consistently Reagan is demonstrating fruits of the Spirit and is a blessing to have in my class this year. Reagan is always pursuing understanding of the content she is learning, not just excellence. She is doing an EXCELLENT job in her classes but it is more to her than just a grade. She is truly trying to understand the concepts she is learning and retain that information. I appreciate her willingness to ask questions and re-approach a concept when needed. Reagan is wise beyond her years and is truly demonstrating what it means to be sold out for Christ. With everything she does, she does with grace, love, and truth. She also encourages those around her to pursue God and love Him, including her teachers! She is a blessing to have as a student and it is an honor to know her.”
What is your favorite subject and why?
My favorite subject is Language Arts because I enjoy doing every part of it. I especially love learning about all the parts of speech and how you can make boring sentences come alive by using them!
What is your favorite part of online schooling?
My favorite part of online schooling is that you get one-on-one support with your teachers, whereas, even in a homeschool co-op, the teacher is teaching several students at once.
Is there anything you’ve encountered while studying at ICA that has surprised you?
It surprised me that even though I live far away from my teachers, I can still see them! They help me understand lessons, study for quizzes, and we can get to know each other.
Where do you live, and what do you enjoy about living there?
I live in Illinois and love that when we get snow, we get a lot of snow! I also love the way that they forests look in the fall.
How do you like to spend your free time?
When I have free time, I love to bake. I also love to spend time with my friends and watch Sight and Sound movies with them.
Do you have any siblings? If so, what kinds of things do you like to do together?
I have two older sisters. We love to play our instruments together. When our parents are not bothered by the noise, we love to jam out and sing as loud as we possibly can! We also play sardines and love to talk and laugh together.
What would others be surprised to learn about you?
People might be surprised to know that I make up characters and act like them to my siblings and friends. Their favorite character is Marckus, who is a 17 year old boy who has all the jobs in the world and is sometimes a bit too proud of himself, but always means well. Also, I am the only person in my family who does not need to wear glasses or contacts. I actually have 20/15 vision!
If you could have any job in the world, which one would you choose and why?
If I could have any job in the world, I would start a bakery that bakes things for people who have special dietary needs.
If you could offer advice to your classmates, what would it be?
One piece of advice for my classmates is to work diligently at school because that is what matters to God. If you work hard, God will bless your efforts. Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us, and establish the work of our hands upon us; yes, establish the work of our hands! Psalm 90:12
Another piece of advice is not to hesitate to reach out to your teachers because they want to help you understand the material.
