A couple weeks ago, Mrs. Blind presented an online classroom called "Made in America" where she shared information about different items invented in the states. The class explored cars, tools, toys, and food items. She then asked the students to conduct their own research to discover the interesting things that their states manufacture. The students were asked to write a paragraph that describes one or two items that their state makes, and explains why they feel that the item or items they chose to research are important. Mrs. Blind received an excellent response from ICA student Jenna Rudd. She shares some fantastic information about the soft-drink that was created in her home state of Georgia.
Coca-Cola
by Jenna Rudd
Coca-Cola was invented in 1886 in Atlanta, Georgia. A man named John Pemberton was the inventor. His bookkeeper, Frank Robinson, named the drink Coca-Cola. He also created the logo in his own handwriting. The Coca-Cola logo is still used today.
In the first year, they sold only about nine bottles a day. But, soon it became America's favorite drink. Today it is enjoyed in more than 200 countries worldwide.
People have tried to copy everything about Coca-Cola. In 1916, they introduced a shaped bottle that could be recognized by everyone, so that people knew they were getting the right drink. Also, in 1941, when World War II was going on, the president of Coca-Cola ordered that everyone in the war would be able to buy a coke for a nickel.
Coca-Cola has world-wide recognition and use, and it was founded right here where I live. It is important to Georgia, because it is a Fortune-500 company and a symbol of American culture. On May 24, 2007, the new World of Coke museum opened in Atlanta. I have been able to tour the museum twice. It is nice to see how Coca-Cola is enjoyed all over the world.
