Vietnam Era is a high school elective that helps students gain an in-depth look at the country of Vietnam and the factors that led to the Vietnam War and the United States’ involvement in the war. Topics in this course from our online academy include the history of Vietnam through colonization and the World Wars, the rise of nationalism, the Gulf of Tonkin incident, Vietnam soldiers and Vietcong tunnels, the American effort, and the antiwar movement.
Lessons examine President Johnson and President Nixon’s involvement in war policy, the invasion of Cambodia, secret diplomacy tactics, and the end of the war. The effects of the Vietnam War, Nixon and Watergate, prisoners of war, war’s aftermath on veterans, and U.S.-Vietnam relations today are also studied. Students explore how events of the war affected United States’ politics, foreign policy, and society. Each unit of the course from our online academy contains quizzes and a test to evaluate progress and student mastery. Projects are included.

Becoming Mom Again
A certified teacher, Brenda has always received guff for choosing to homeschool her three children. After striving for years to find a program that suits her family, Brenda chose Ignite Christian Academy’s accredited program. “I was looking for something that was going to give some validity to what I was doing,” Brenda said. The distance learning environment provides the support she and her children need. “Ignite Christian Academy changed everything for us,” she said. “It gave me the role of mom again instead of just being a teacher.” The academy has also equipped Brenda’s children with independence. “I’m amazed at how well they do in college because they don’t have someone spoon feeding them in high school,” she said. Though she was skeptical at first, Brenda has also grown to love the online courses offered through Ignite Christian Academy. They have given her son Stevie the chance to interact with his peers and teachers. “Nothing is perfect, but this is about as close to perfect as we can get for our family.”
The Door to Success
When her family relocated to a small town in Iowa, Debbie’s daughter Olivia struggled to adjust to her new school. “Most everyone in the school had grown up there, and if you weren’t part of that group, it was really hard to fit in,” Debbie said. Knowing her daughter was unhappy, Debbie asked God to open a door that would help Olivia find comfort and achieve academic success. That door opened when Debbie met a local homeschool mom who encouraged her to homeschool Olivia. At a homeschooling conference, Debbie discovered that Olivia could earn a diploma with the help of certified teachers through the accredited distance learning program. “In Olivia’s last year at public school, I was very fearful, but this year she is doing so well,” Debbie said. “You just couldn’t ask for a better support system for your child.”
Dancing Through Distance Learning
Jessye, a ballet student who travels extensively for dance lessons, discovered Ignite Christian Academy through a friend. She decided that the academy’s outstanding reputation, flexible schedule, and mobile curriculum would suit her busy lifestyle. Jessye completes her schoolwork in the car as her family members transport her an hour and a half one-way to dance lessons each day. “School with Ignite Christian Academy and dance are both teaching me great responsibility, and that hard work does indeed pay off,” Jessye said. The consistent, sincere teacher support she receives continually impresses Jessye. “I have loved my teachers as they have been so knowledgeable in their subject area and so willing to make sure I am learning the material in my classes.” Additionally, she enjoys the Bible-based lessons. “I love the WebEx classes because they open in prayer,” Jessye said. “The fact that Ignite Christian Academy is a Christian-based school is a huge reason I selected it.” In addition to taking daily dance lessons, Jessye also auditions for summer programs at prestigious ballet academies. She dreams of studying year-round with an academy such as the Gelsey Kirkland Academy of Classical Ballet, where she studied during the summer of 2013. “If I am ever lucky enough for this to happen, Ignite Christian Academy will be a perfect way to continue my education while dancing away from home.”

Commencement Exercises
Although Ignite Christian Academy is an online academy, we know the tradition of graduation is a life event to enjoy! That’s why our graduation ceremonies include all the same beloved, ceremonial elements that a traditional brick-and-mortar school ceremony would provide. Ceremonies include an inspirational keynote speaker, recognition of graduates, and a formal diploma presentation. Yes, graduates walk across stage to receive their diploma! All ceremonies have a reception banquet with light refreshments for graduates, family members, and all other proud attendees.
Ceremony Locations
Most families travel to attend graduation ceremonies. So we choose regional locations that appeal to students and families as vacation destinations, with appealing local attractions. Locations change each year, based on attendance levels in a particular region. Announcements of locations are given to students at least six months prior to the ceremony, so families can plan to attend. In general, ceremonies are held at local churches. All family members are welcome to attend. In addition, current families without a graduate can also attend to see what graduation ceremonies are like and to meet students from their area. To get a list of graduation ceremony locations for the current year, call 800.682.7396.
*Additional costs required for attending graduation ceremonies.
